The annual GCI Green Computing Awards (GCA2022) in Malaysia recognize the exceptional sustainability initiatives being undertaken by the public and private sector. With sustainability moving up the agenda, the Awards have become established as the most prestigious recognition of best practice within the green computing arena. This year in 2022, the spotlight is on an array of Green ICT infrastructure encompassing data centers, equipment manufacturers, service providers, application developers and others.
In Malaysia, the GCA2022 is administered by GCI, and the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) with support from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and is governed by a local cross sector steering group. The judging panel are representatives of sector organizations relevant to Malaysia. All categories are open to any data center facility both in the public or private sector in Malaysia. However, data center facilities will need to be nominated beforehand. Judges are allowed discretion to award up to 2 winners for each category to distinguish between large and small applications. However, this will only be done when applications are of a high quality – it is not mandatory.

Minister’s Award (No nominations needed, Winner will be selected from the pool of category winners)
Joint Chairmen Award (No nominations needed, Winner will be selected from the pool of category winners)
Green Computing Personality & Advocate Award (No nominations needed, Winner will be selected from industry surveys)

The process of GCA2022:
The timelines for the Awards Program are as follows:
- The dateline for nominations is 31 March 2022.
- Nominees are required to complete the Award Application Form which is sent electronically to the nominee by the local steering group. The dateline for submission is 30 April 2022.
- Shortlisted applicants for each category will be notified by 15 May 2022.
- A remote or physical interview will be held with the shortlisted applicant by 31 May 2022.
- Final results will be announced by 30 June 2022.
- Award Ceremony will be held at MIGHT Cyberjaya in August 2022.
